Plagiarism Policy

The Journal of Knowledge Economy Studies (JKES) maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding plagiarism and unethical publication practices. All submitted manuscripts are subjected to a comprehensive plagiarism screening process using reliable detection software (Hamanandjoo) before entering the peer-review stage.

Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism is defined as the appropriation of another person's ideas, processes, results, or words without giving appropriate credit. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Submitting someone else's work as your own.

  • Copying text or ideas from a source without proper citation.

  • Providing inaccurate or misleading information about a source.

  • Paraphrasing a source by changing words but copying its structure without acknowledgment.

  • Reproducing a large portion of content—even if cited—in a way that constitutes excessive dependence on the original source.

  • Using images, figures, tables, or any graphic materials without permission or proper attribution.

Screening and Similarity Check

All manuscripts submitted to JKES are initially screened for similarity using the Hamanandjoo plagiarism detection system. The outcomes of this screening determine the course of action:

  • Minor Similarity: If minor similarity is found, the manuscript will be returned to the author for revision. Authors must remove or properly cite the matched content before resubmission. A second round of similarity check will be conducted.

  • Major Similarity: If substantial plagiarism is detected, the manuscript will be immediately rejected and will not be eligible for reconsideration.

  • Post-Publication Discovery: If plagiarism is identified after publication, the journal reserves the right to retract the article and take appropriate ethical actions as per international publishing standards (COPE guidelines).

Policy Enforcement

JKES adheres to the ethical standards set by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Cases of plagiarism are handled with transparency and in alignment with international norms to preserve the integrity of the academic record.

Author Responsibility

Authors are fully responsible for ensuring the originality of their submissions and for properly citing all sources. The editorial board recommends:

  • Ensuring all references are accurately cited and fully detailed in the bibliography.

  • Using quotation marks for any direct text of more than six consecutive words.

  • Obtaining written permission for reuse of copyrighted images or figures.

Authors who violate this policy may face sanctions including rejection of the manuscript, retraction of the published article, and notification to affiliated institutions or funders where necessary.
